Last Week I Did a Liver Cleanse

Today I began day 1 of a 10 day liver cleanse. When this article is published I’ll be close to completing it. I don’t know how it's going to go but I’m prepared with all the  supplements and food that I’ll need to be successful, along with a support group to lean on. I even convinced my husband to join me in this cleanse.

Many of my friends have asked me why I’m doing this. It seems hard, restrictive, no coffee, alcohol or sugar… yikes! More than half of Canadians rely on coffee to get them started or through their day. My why is bigger than the buzz I feel from a caffeine or sugar jolt. My why is linked to longer term health and well being goals.

Cleansing gives your vital organs a chance to rest, reset, and come back even more effective and healthy. It gives your body a break from processing the hard to metabolize foods like meat, gluten, dairy and sugar. What I found quite interesting when reading through the guidelines was the recommendation to drink at least 2 Litres of PURIFIED water every day and to also use PURE water to mix the daily shakes with. With cleanses I’ve done in the past, the guideline was to use plain old tap water.

This shift is important to note because it shows 2 things:

First, more and more people are becoming aware of the importance of choosing clean water over water that contains so many contaminants.

Second, this awareness is occurring because our water supply continues to be loaded with more toxic chemicals from industrial pollution, chlorine and pharmaceutical waste than ever before!!

By staying clear of these toxins your body can function in a more balanced, healthy state. Toxins are all around us, all the time and by simply limiting your exposure by choosing clean, filtered water to cook with, to drink and to shower in you'll be one step closer to a healthier, more energetic YOU.

You don't have to do anything extreme, like the cleanse I'm doing smiley You can start with small, simple daily choices that support your organs and ultimately your overall well being. Start by using pure, clean, chemical free water and see where that leads you. Anything worthwhile takes time and patience and a first step in the right direction. From there it's a daily choice that you can make each and every morning to do something good for yourself.

Here's my disclaimer. I know it's easier fall into our North American way of eating and drinking..

Sugary drinks, alcohol, caffeine, wheat and dairy are the biggest culprits.

I truly was not ready to give any of that up, UNTIL I ran into a health crisis. It's easier to live in the dark ....until it's not!

Prevention is always the cure and my advice is to do what you can to limit your exposure to chemicals in your water and food. Your future self will thank you for it.
